Barnbrook Typeface

Brief:

You are asked to consider the poster format and its power to communicate in a (public) space. The Barbican Art Gallery in London is planning an exhibition celebrating the work of the graphic designer you were assigned (Jonathan Barnbrook).

Using the modular type you designed, you are asked to create a poster promoting this exhibition. Consider the message of your poster, the application and composition of your typeface carefully. Balance, harmony, proportion, tension, movement, grouping and hierarchy are key terms.

Your poster must include: title of exhibition, sub heading (if needed), dates of exhibition, information on the venue as well as a 30–40 words informing the audience as to who the graphic designer is.

Alongside your modular typeface you will choose one of three typefaces given to you by the tutor team at one type size only for body copy.
The poster can only use type and form derived from type: no illustrations or photography. The poster will need to be A2 portrait and can use colour.

You will be using the software illustrator.
